I purchased these which isn’t bad. The taste is mild but decent mushroom chocolate. The bars are small but overall a good serving and low calorie. I was planning to reorder but the price jumped in, that is insane. Would not purchase these for that much money definitely not worth it.

  2. Nestor bermeo

I’ve been a fan of these chocolate bars for the past few months, and they were reasonably affordable. I believe I bought my last batch at around But now, it has more than doubled to I will not be buying more

This stuff is the best for a variety of reasons. First of all, mushrooms or no mushrooms, this is great dark chocolate. Rich and smooth with a wonderful aftertaste. Excellent paired with coffee. What could be better? It’s organic. Heirloom cacao. Rainforest friendly and all that stuff, if it matters to you. As a matter of fact, yes! It does matter to me! How to make it even better? Add those mushrooms, please. They don’t make the chocolate taste funky, they just add a supercharged burst of health. If all that isn’t enough to convince you, All the packaging is eco-friendly.

It comes in a square that’s breakable into four smaller squares.

So, this stuff is great in every way. If you like dark chocolate, really dark chocolate, you’re in for a treat.

This Chocolate is very good. I happen to prefer the Dark variety instead of the Milk Chocolate, and thought this Four Sigmatic Brand made with Organic Heirloom Cacao looked interesting with the added benefits of a blend of mushrooms. I counted 10 different varieties of organic mushroom extracts, some not familiar, never heard of, and others, yes. Some mushrooms grow in other countries. There’s also a few other organic ingredients and a bit of sugar. There’s no mushroom taste at all, just a very rich, almost bitter flavor, but still perfect. This Chocolate is 77%, so well within the wonderful taste factor that we enjoy, and enjoying, I am! These 1 oz. packages are a Limited Edition and I think called, Defend. Made in the USA with foreign ingredients.

The flavor of this chocolate was really interesting. Some dark chocolate can have a chalky mouthfeel that is not pleasant. This chocolate had a very smooth mouthfeel and melted nicely which is surprising given how dark this chocolate is. It is less sweet than other chocolate with a slight bitterness which I actually prefer. It has a umami undertones that was unexpected and yet enjoyable which I attribute to the mushrooms in this chocolate. I love that it didn’t have any sour notes that some dark chocolate can leave.

I don’t normally take mushroom supplements so I can’t really say if there are health benefits from having this but from a chocolate snob perspective, this was a nice treat. If you are a chocoholic like myself and looking to experience something new in chocolate, I recommend trying this. This less sweet dark chocolate with an interesting umami flavor profile was a nice treat and something different that I hadn’t experienced before

If, like me, you love dark chocolate, this tastes amazing. The added mushroom blend is a bonus. First, the chocolate is not very sweet at all, but more like bitter sweet. You will not want to eat a lot of this chocolate in one sitting, but savor each bite. The “nutrition facts” sets the “serving size” as one half of a bar. I don’t disagree with that. Indeed, I felt satisfied with a half bar the first time I tried this chocolate. Second, the addition of these mushroom varieties tends to eliminate any sense of guilt you might normally have when eating chocolate. Even without the therapeutic additions, each bar contains only 6 grams of carbs from sugars.

Before mine arrived, I read other reviews that said that this was overpriced. I thought they might be unfair given that this organic. Then I received mine and tried it out. Yeah, believe them. The (as I write this, anyway) price of $55 for 10 bars is a total rip-off. I’m being kind when I say that this is average quality dark chocolate. It’s kind of waxy, somewhat bitter, and just not really that good. Plus, if you compare this to Lindt 78% cocoa bars by weight, the nutritional facts (minus whatever the mushrooms might be doing) is very similar. In fact, Lindt appears to have less sugar than these bars, but that might be a rounding thing.

Are these decadent, as they say? No where near it, IMO. When I eat chocolate and think “wow, that wasn’t worth the calories,” then no, I sure don’t think it’s decadent. It’s just not very good at all.

Don’t be lured into thinking that $5.50/bar isn’t a bad price, as these bars are only one ounce each. Lindt (and other brands) bars are 3.5 ounces. You can get 12 of those on Amazon at the moment for about $33.50. So, while this chocolate costs $88/lb, Lindt costs under $13/lb. Lindt is smooth and enjoyable. This is neither to me. Hu brand organic and vegan dark chocolate is really well rated and under $38/lb, so you can get organic and vegan for a lot less. I pay extra for organic all of the time, but the markup on this product is ridiculous. They list fairtrade coffee as one of the selling points on this product page, but there is no coffee in this product, so they seem to be taking credit for something that doesn’t apply here.

So, comparing prices to Hu (to make it more apples to apples), do mushrooms cost $50/lb? If not, maybe buy some better chocolate and get your mushrooms in another form.

There is one member of the household who loves all of the new studies and now mushrooms are a buzz-word – joining dark chocolate as a good thing. So this chocolate bar was bound to be a good thing before the wrapper was opened. Tasting it made it an even bigger hit! It did taste a little bit different taste than just chocolate and I thought I tasted a tiny bit of grit – but that might have been my imagination. All-in-all a nice treat and one that doesn’t make me feel as much of a “diet Cheater.”

Though this is marketed as “mushroom” chocolate, it doesn’t taste like mushrooms and I think anyone who tried it would be hard-pressed to see it as anything other than regular, high quality dark chocolate. The chocolate has a slightly chalky texture, which is common in high cacao and low butterfat chocolate. It has a good snap and the bars are smooth and nicely shaped. Each paper packet holds two servings, but there is no way to reseal after you break off half so you’ll need a rubber band to close it up.

The chocolate is smooth for very dark chocolate. It has some fruity notes and cherry in particular hit me. It’s not overly sweet, but it also isn’t especially bitter. If you hate dark chocolate, you may not love this, but you won’t find it unpalatable. There is also a bit of a coffee note (which is also common in dark chocolate) and that causes a lingering aftertaste much as coffee does when you drink it.

The main issue with these is the value. There is a lot of quality dark chocolate out there and it’s more economical than this so one has to weigh the low sugar and other nutritional components into consideration. It’s good dark chocolate, but it is pricey.
